An exploration of the stories of Dr. Seuss introduced a range of learning opportunities for young minds at Reinhard Early Childhood Center in the Bellmore School District.
Students in Ms. Sicoli’s class read stories by Dr. Seuss that included “Yertle the Turtle” and “One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.” Students took on a variety of artistic challenges related to the stories, such as naming the colors of different fish, finding words that rhyme and creating handprint-style paintings. Practicing their opinion writing, students stated an opinion, backed it up with facts and stated a conclusion. Like the turtles in “Yertle the Turtle,” students’ turtle paper crafts were also stacked towards the ceiling. The lessons incorporated Bellmore’s Core Values and Leadership Principles, including respect and integrity.

A celebration of music brought weeks of fun to the Reinhard Early Childhood Center in the Bellmore School District as students marked Music in Our Schools Month throughout the month of March.
Each week, students were challenged to come to school dressed to follow engaging weekly themes. Team jerseys were sported for “Sports Music Day,” for example, while “Tie Dye Day” signified the music of the 1970s. Students also dressed in cowboy-related gear for “Country Day” before concluding the month-long celebration with a “Favorite Decades Day,” when students dressed to represent different eras of music history. Music in Our Schools Month returns each year to boost students’ appreciation of music and highlight the Bellmore District’s commitment to incorporating innovative music education in lessons throughout every grade level.

The Reinhard Early Childhood Center’s 100th day of school was filled with excitement, as Rising Star Leaders celebrated the milestone with engaging activities and an altruistic endeavor.
Building up to the day, classes competed to see who could bring in the most boxes of cereal to be donated to local families in need. The Reinhard community reached a feat of more than 1,100 boxes collected, which were toppled throughout the entire building like dominos. It was a thrilling event as each class waited outside their classrooms in anticipation. The cereal boxes were later donated to the Community Cupboard in the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District.
Additionally, students arrived at school wearing clothing covered in 100 items, such as fuzzy cotton balls, stickers or buttons. They engaged in 100th day themed challenges, including a scavenger hunt to find 100 numbers hidden throughout the halls. The important day marks a notable achievement by the Reinhard community while fueling excitement for the future.
